Draper James Top & Shorts c/o (pants version & romper version), kate spade new york clutch, Charlotte Olympia Flats, Ferragamo Headband

It’s no secret that I have a serious crush on Reese Witherspoon’s clothing line, Draper James. It’s perfectly feminine with the sweetest touch of southern charm and filled with gorgeous fabrics and prints that are right up my alley (hello, floral and gingham). I have a couple pieces from the line (last seen here, here and here) but would gladly add this dress and this skirt to my growing collection as well. I wore my Draper James Nashville Shirt and matching Bristol Shorts in “Magnolia” paired together while out in London earlier this summer.

I always have a pair of my Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats on hand when traveling. I last wore this cream pair here and here but I also have them in black velvet, which I wear more in the Fall/Winter (last seen here and here).

I’m so excited to be heading back to London for fashion week in just a few short weeks and stroll these streets again. London has a charismatic charm that just can’t be beat in my book.

In the meantime, we’re hopping over to NYC today for our first round of fashion week. We’ll be on a shorter trip than usual, but I’m still so excited to see what’s in store this season. It’s always a whirlwind of a week, so be sure to follow along on Instagram and Snapchat (@galmeetsglam) to see all the details as they’re playing out!

We’ve been having a heat wave in San Francisco ever since arriving home from Peru and it has made us want to spend all our time outdoors, although that might be because we’ve been melting in our apartment. So this past weekend we did just that- rode bikes to the GG Bridge and took long walks around the neighborhood, soaking up our Indian Summer.

gmg-smitten34

We stopped by the new Smitten off Fillmore and waited in line for their heavenly made to order ice cream. It’s hands down the best ice cream in San Francisco and hits the perfect sweet spot on a hot afternoon.

I recently added these kate spade new york “Carima Flats” to my current shoe line-up and brought them with me to NYFW. In the past, I’ve tried to survive in heels running around New York, but I mostly packed flats and loafers for this trip and I know my feet will thank me.

I’ve never been one to abide by the silly “No White After Labor Day” rule. In fact, I recently pulled back out some of my favorite white pieces to the front of my closet including this old Topshop scalloped skirt. A simple mix of chambray, white and tan is combination I’ll never tire of.

Thank you to kate spade new york for sponsoring this post.

Old Navy Jacket, Old Navy Dress, Clare Vivier Bag (old, similar here), Michael Kors Watch, Old Navy Flats

We’ve been having the most beautiful pastel sunsets in SF over the past week and they were too gorgeous to miss the opportunity to shoot them with the Golden Gate bridge in the background. It’s rare for the bridge to be completely clear at sunset since we usually see the fog and clouds roll in, hiding it until the point where it’s barely visible. I had ridden out on bikes with girlfriends the prior evening and we got lucky again with the same pink and purple hues.

I popped into Old Navy recently and picked up this army green colored jacket and striped cotton dress. They have so many great casual pieces that work perfectly for transitioning into fall, like these suede flats or this polka dot dress.

Little details always go a long way. Although it’s a tad worn, this leopard bag has remained a favorite year after year. It’s no longer available in this print but you can find it in a clutch or cross-body leopard version or this leather version.

Thomas and I are also currently working on our San Francisco City Guide, so please let us know any details that you would like for us to include. I receive so many questions about what to do/see/eat in SF, so I want to make sure it’s filled with tips and guides that are helpful!

Our trip to Peru was incredibly special and we had such a wonderful time traveling around. My older sister has been living in South America for the past six months, so my mom, Thomas and I met up with her in Lima to start our 8 day travels around Peru. I have so, so many photos to go through from this trip (the scenes are just breathtaking) but in the meantime, I have this short(er) post from Cusco!

gal_meets_glam_cusco6
gal_meets_glam_cusco31

We had been at Machu Picchu the days prior and took the Hiram Bingham train back to Cusco for the final days of our trip. By that point we were pretty adjusted to the elevation and the weather had warmed up, so we were out exploring the city all day in search of pretty textiles and alpaca knits to take home.

gal_meets_glam_cusco18

gal_meets_glam_cusco21
gal_meets_glam_cusco14

We started the morning walking to the San Pedro Market, which is the brightest and most colorful market I’ve ever seen filled with pretty much everything you can think of. We browsed through the rows of fresh fruit and flowers and looked through the pretty blankets and scarves before stopping by one of the many fresh fruit juice stands. You can spend a good hour or two just wandering through looking for unique gifts to take home for friends or family.

gal_meets_glam_cusco22

gal_meets_glam_cusco3
gal_meets_glam_cusco11

We packed lots of layers for Peru. We went from nice, warm weather in Lima to cold, brisk air at Lake Titicaca to an in between at Machu Picchu. I brought lots of cardigans and soft, cashmere sweaters to wear in the early morning or evening when the air is the coolest. This Equipment one is a mix of wool and cashmere and not your typical lightweight cardigan. It has some weight to it, which makes it a great in-between from a sweater to a coat. We all took our turns wearing it throughout the trip, it was a group favorite! (the upside of being the same size as my mom and sister, we all share clothes!)

As you probably saw on my instagram (here, here, here, here and here), I am in love with alpacas. They are even more adorable in the person and I couldn’t resist taking a photo with nearly every one I saw.

gal_meets_glam_cusco30

We stayed at the beautiful Belmond Palacio Nazarenas while in Cusco and had wonderful time on their gorgeous property, which is right next to the great shopping area of San Blas and a short walk to the central square. Stay tuned for more posts from our trip!

Look 2: Michael Kors Dress, Marni Belt (old, similar here), Louboutin Pumps, Fendi Bag, Hermès Watch

Thomas and I are already back home from New York Fashion Week and we had a whirlwind trip with the TRESemmé team. I partnered up with them again this season to showcase the hairstyles not only backstage and on the runway but the looks I wore all throughout the week. I had the luxury of getting my hair done every morning by a TRESemmé hair stylist, which allowed me to try out some styles I normally wouldn’t think of on my own and learn some tips and tricks, which I’ll be sharing in this post and a few more to come.

gal-meets-glam-nyfw32
gal-meets-glam-nyfw47

The first two days of fashion week were a mix of warm, rainy weather. So my stylist and I decided to try hairstyles that worked in my favor for this. The first day, we went for a straight, sleek look parted down the middle and the second day, we pulled it back into an “effortless” looking updo.

gal-meets-glam-nyfw24

gal-meets-glam-nyfw33
gal-meets-glam-nyfw35

My hair is naturally straight, so usually when I let it air dry, it has more of a messy-straight look to it. My stylist elevated this look by first adding a bit of the TRESemmé Runway Get Sleek Blow Dry Balm and then straightening my hair with a straightener adding a few face framing pieces. She also added a bit more volume to the crown of my hair by teasing and using the TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Hairspray to finish the look off.

gal-meets-glam-nyfw66

gal-meets-glam-nyfw58
gal-meets-glam-nyfw67

The second updo we created was one of my favorites from the week. The results were unexpected and glamorous but relaxed and effortless all at once. The stylist started off by adding a little of the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Foam to my hair before curling it and pulling it back into a bun and pinning it.

gal-meets-glam-nyfw10

gal-meets-glam-nyfw13
gal-meets-glam-nyfw30

For the first day of shows, I wore this white Alexis dress (I’m wearing an xs) with my blush pink Valentino pumps and black accessories. Alexis makes some of the most beautiful lace and crochet dresses like one, this one and this one. If the weather was cool enough to allow it, I would have worn a leather jacket or cashmere coat over it.

I purchased this Michael Kors shirtdress on major sale a few months back and I know it will remain a favorite find for years. There is an understated elegance to a simple dress like this but by no means is it basic. I found a few other similar black shirtdress options here, here and here.

Look 1: Tommy Hilfiger Jacket, Sweater, Shorts & Hat

Look 2: Tommy Hilfiger Dress, Sweater & Hat

Look 3: Tommy Hilfiger Sweater & Pants

Tommy Hilfiger will always remain one of my favorite All-American designers. Whether it’s a classic mix of red, white and blue, the ultimate cozy striped sweater or plaid shirt, I always know I’ll find something. This season I’ve partnered with them to style three completely different looks including pieces from their fall collection below.

gal-meets-glam-tommy
gal-meets-glam-tommy36

This first head to toe look is a little androgynous for me, but I love it! The oversized baseball jacket gives a sporty vibe to the cashmere sweater and wool trouser shorts. A swipe of red lipstick completes it and adds a glam element that I rarely go without.

This silk striped dress is so comfy, you’ll feel like you’re wearing pjs all day. I switched out the thin black belt it came with and tied a sweater around my waist instead to make it feel more relaxed for the weekend. I would also style it with a blazer and pumps for a work week appropriate look.

A cozy cream sweater is always at the top of my list for fall and this last look has the perfect one. I wore it with a pair of striped wool trousers and a bold flat for a simple, easy get up.

Tommy Hilfiger is excited to announce the launch of the Fall edition of their Tommy Magazine. Pictures that are posted wearing Tommy Hilfiger on Instagram and Twitter and tagged with #MyTommyMag will be handpicked and posted on Tommy.com. Share how you wear your Tommy for a chance for Tommy himself to select your photo for a feature on the Tommy Blog!

Outfit Details:

J.Crew Sweater, Chicwish Dress, Chanel Flats (similar here and here), Jane Pope Ring, Prada Bag, Hermes Watch

It feels like I’ve only been home for a quick second and I’m already off on another project this afternoon…but one I’m very excited about! In the short amount of time we were home, we tried to fit in as much as possible including the first install of decor for our place (!!!) that we’ve been patiently waiting for months on. I’ve shared a few tidbits on my Instagram and Snapchat (galmeetsglam) and talk briefly about it in today’s “In The Mood For” email newsletter (you can sign up here if you’re not already a subscriber).

gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink46
gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink39

gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink10

I can’t wait to share our whole place once we’re finally finished! My personal style and home decor style are very aligned, so it probably won’t come as a huge surprise, but we definitely pushed our limits and tried to create a really unique space to us. A simple combination like this black and white stripe Chicwish dress and pale pink cashmere sweater inspired a lot of what we did. I wanted it to feel classic and timeless but in a very feminine and modern way.

gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink63
gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink59

Thomas and I stopped by the Sugarfina store on Union St. yesterday to pick up a few treats to take to London with us for a few of our friends. Even though our schedule is jam packed (in the best way possible) while we’re there, we always make time to see those that are close to us.

gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink55

gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink38
gal-meets-glam-stripes-pink34

This mix of stripes and blush reminds me of this look I wore back in February just before Spring. We’re now transitioning into fall and I’m still wearing the same color palette. It just goes to show that investing in the classics and pieces that are really “you” will get the most wear.

This dress also comes in an opposite color scheme- black with white stripes but I’m really loving this blush one with an embellished neckline (that looks a lot like this Miu Miu one)!

NYFW came and went way too fast. It’s hard to soak it all in as it’s happening but I always feel incredibly lucky to attend each show and event that I’m invited to. Getting to work with the TRESemmé team is like the icing on the cake! Who wouldn’t want their hair done every morning with a stylist teaching you all the tricks and tips from the runway? You can see my last post with my first recap of the week here and next I’ll be sharing a tutorial of one of my favorite looks we created.

This afternoon is NYC was so beautiful that Thomas and I skipped one of our afternoon shows to head over to Bryant Park. The sun was warm and shining but there was a cool breeze that kept us from getting hot. Days like that make me want to move to NYC!

Gal Meets Glam Marchesa Notte Dress

The final hair look I created with the TRESemmé team was this glamorous side pony. My stylist made tighter curls, brushing them out and finishing with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Hairspray before securing with a hair tie at the side of my neck. I always love looks that are feminine but a touch out of the ordinary.

gmg-fw19

gmg-fw32

I brought along this Red Valentino dress on our trip knowing that it would be perfect. I didn’t even notice at the time, but I only wore dresses the whole week. I’m a definite dress lover and this style comes in a few different versions here and here.

This half-up messy braid was my favorite hair look of the week. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to wear my hair up or down, so my stylist created this look which ended up being the best of both worlds. I usually keep my hair very polished or in the same similar waves, so I loved the undone feeling of this look which we created by applying TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Foam to the lengths of my hair to create a soft wavy texture. We finished with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray to lock in the style without stiffness or stickiness.

The kate spade new york presentation is always one I look forward to and the Rachel Zoe Collection this season was exquisite. The TRESemmé team did these beautiful boho waves on the models that I’m going to try and emulate asap. I love soft curls and these don’t look too fussy or overdone.

Until next time, NYC! Stay tuned for the next hair tutorial to come from one of my favorite looks we created. Which hair style do want to see made into a tutorial?

We hopped on over across the pond late last week and were greeted with London’s fall weather, welcoming it with open arms. Luckily we packed a few of our warm things including coats and scarves and lots of layers. We were in London around this time last year (remember here and here?), so it feels pretty nostalgic to be back.

gmg-london-jm31
gmg-london-jm16

I picked up a nasty cold on our flight home from NYC that lingered, coming with me on this trip as well. We landed in London initially planning on going straight to bed, but when we saw how beautiful the weather was, we couldn’t force ourselves to sit inside all afternoon. So we headed out for some warm drinks and a walk in the park.

gmg-london-jm37

We made our way to Monocle Cafe in Marylebone, ordering some of their matcha hot chocolate and avocado toast to fill our afternoon appetite.

We then walked over to Green Park, which is just that, a very green park. The leaves on the trees had started to change to the colors of autumn, the grass a deep shade of hunter green and the sky a vibrant blue. The air was crisp but the sun warmed our faces, making for a sleepy afternoon in the park for many.

I recently got these pieces from J. McLaughlin that are the quintessential fall basics- soft knits and light scarves in muted shades of neutrals. This pleated skirt is my favorite and I can see it paired with a chunky, oversized sweater back home. It also comes in classic black, which would easily make your essentials list.

Save the best for last. Well, that’s exactly what I did for the Carolina Herrera show during NYFW. It has always been my absolute favorite show to attend as Carolina somehow outdoes herself every single time. This collection was filled with pink hues, dreamy silhouettes and flowing fabrics. It exudes elegance and glamour, as Carolina Herrera is always known for. You can see a peek on my Instagram here or see the rest of the Spring 2016 RTW collection on Vogue.com here.

I wore this polka dot dress from the CH Carolina Herrera collection paired with my oxfords that add a bit of masculinity to the feminine dress. It was also so nice to wear flats most of fashion week- it saved my feet since we walked almost everywhere.

After the show, we walked to Buvette to meet up with our friends for a late lunch before we flew back to SF that evening. Walking through the streets filled with brick townhouses, we could feel the verge of fall coming with the leaves falling and autumn decor starting to peek through.

Burberry Trench & Dress c/o, Chanel Oxfords, Miu Miu Bag, Burberry Beauty Lipstick in “Oxblood”

I had the incredible opportunity of traveling to London with the Burberry team to cover and get a glimpse inside their world of beauty and fashion before, during and after their Spring/Summer 2016 show. We were only in town for 3 nights and our schedule was packed with activities and events, so we hit the ground running once we arrived.

gal-meets-glam-burberry19
gal-meets-glam-burberry-show1

On our first morning, we got a tour of the Burberry Beauty Box in Covent Square before heading over to the Burberry Headquarters to watch, listen and learn from Burberry Make-up Artistic Consultant, Wendy Rowe. We got to see a preview of the beauty look for the runway show the following day, seen here on Burberry model, Amber Anderson. Wendy works closely with Burberry’s Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Bailey, to develop the beauty look for each season, which is inspired by the pieces from the collection. I loved hearing her talk about how closely beauty and fashion tie together for the brand, which is designed all in house.

This season’s look was fresh-faced with a bit of light contouring, a bold oxblood lip and white nails. Wendy started with Burberry’s Fresh Glow as the base, then apply the Effortless Contouring Pen under the cheekbones, jawline and crease of the eyes. She then added a bit of Burberry’s Light Glow Blush before finishing off with a natural amount of Mascara and Oxblood Lip. Burberry Beauty will also be launching in Sephora so keep your eyes peeled because these products are amazing!

gal-meets-glam-burberry15

The following afternoon came the official Burberry Spring/Summer 2016 show. (Can you spy me in the image below- look for turquoise!) It was such a dream to attend and see the collection in person, on the runway. The show itself is an incredible performanceIt was so much more than any runway show I’ve ever attended. A live orchestra sat in the center of the runway, while Alison Moyet sang.

gal-meets-glam-burberry10

I got to pop backstage before the show began to watch Wendy Rowe in action. I love the minimal eye makeup and the oxblood look that we had seen the day prior.

gal-meets-glam-burberry29

Since the show was in Kensington Gardens, after it was over, Thomas and I walked over to the Orangery for a very British afternoon. It’s the sweetest spot for some afternoon sugar and tea.

We spent the rest of the afternoon hiding from the rain before heading out for our last event, celebrating the show with cocktails at Thomas’s, Burberry’s cafe at their Regent St. location. I switched into this gorgeous pink Burberry coat for a night out on the town in London. I can’t thank the Burberry team enough for such an amazing experience that I’ll never forget!

Express Studio Blazer, Express Top, Express Mini Skirt, Express Pumps & Express Skinny Scarf, Illesteva Sunglasses

My style always reflects my mood- maybe one day I’m a little more preppy or the next, it’s slightly more edgy. One thing that stays the same is my core feminine style. I’ve always gravitated to those girly pieces but as I get older, I make sure that they’re still classic and timeless. A bow neck tie is a must-have item in my book. I’ve created one using this skinny scarf from Express pairing it with this white blouse with black piping.

gal-meets-glam-express-sept17

I’ve topped it off with a classic black blazer for a refined, modern day work appropriate look.

This high waisted sailor mini skirt has been a hot item this fall since Karlie Kloss was wearing it in the Express ad campaign. I have to admit, she convinced me to get it as well! I also bought it black because it’s a perfect staple for fall. I can’t wait to wear with my OTK boots.

My go-to for messy, dirty hair is to always put it back into a low ponytail. It somehow makes everything feel more pulled together. A red lip also does the trick for adding a pop to an all-neutral look.

Remember this post from when T and I were in Paris last fall? Well this gorgeous rose embroidered dress is this fall’s new version (I’m officially declaring that!). The navy against the pink and white roses makes for a dreamy combination and far more luxe than it’s price tag of under $70. Even though I would love to be wearing it in Paris, like I did with its predecessor, it’s my current mood booster at home. Slipping into something this pretty in the morning will surely jumpstart your day.

One things that remains the same this fall is my love for this blush colored Max Mara coat I bought last winter. You can see previous posts of how I styled it here, here, here and here or shop similar ones available this season here, here and here.

I’m all for skipping the rules of saving your prettiest dresses for special occasions. I make mine more day-time appropriate by pairing with flats instead of heels and minimal accessories.

If you’re looking for a pink coat this season, I’ve found a few that will hit the spot. This Vince one is my favorite and currently 25%, this Ted Baker one comes in a very pale shade of pink and this Calvin Klein one is currently under $200.

Barbour Jacket, Current Elliott Tee, Joe’s Jeans (on sale), Hunter Boots, Hermes Watch, J.Crew Baseball Cap (Thomas’s)

Last Sunday, Thomas and I made the three hour drive to Big Sur for the night. We had previously only passed through the misty coastline, stopping for photos, but never staying overnight. We checked into the luxurious yet homey Post Ranch Inn, which has been at the top of our “must visit” hotel list for a while now. You can get a glimpse of our trip on Instagram here, here, here and here.

Taking a break from city life and being in nature always makes me feel at peace. I can get pretty caught up in the craziness of life, especially with an online business that’s built around sharing and social media. Thomas and I love heading out with our cameras in hand, ready to explore, with no pressure of taking “the perfect” photos. One of Thomas’s favorite things to capture on camera is nature (especially sunsets) and he loves to go “photographic hikes” as we like to call them.

Big Sur is incredible and if you’ve ever considered doing a trip, absolutely go through with it! The mornings are eery and foggy, making you want to curl up by a fire with a warm cup of tea, and the seaside cliffs offer breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. There are plenty of parks and beaches for daytime activities as well. The scenery has me reminiscing of our trip to Alaska with our friends Carly & Garrett back in May, which you can see here and here.

We spent the afternoon wandering around the 100 acre property, taking the paths through the forest to the chef’s garden before making our way back to our treehouse.

I am obsessed with my Hunter Boots and wear them any chance I get (last seen here in Napa). These are the Hunter “Original Tall” Rainboots in black but I also have the “Tour” Packable Rainboots in hunter green which are great for traveling. I also love these pink ones!

gal-meets-glam-big-sur39

The fall weather inspired me to pack my knit sweaters, favorite jeans and jackets like this Barbour one in “Old Rose” that I’m in love with. It’s not too thick but still keeps you warm on a cool afternoon, plus the tartan inside is such a cute touch. I wear my Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket weekly in San Francisco (thanks, fog!) and while I absolutely love it, this Barbour one is a nice switch up.

Burberry Trench, J.Crew Sweater, Joe’s Jeans, Stuart Weitzman Flats c/o, Celine Bag (similar here and here)

Even though our trip to London was brief, we made sure to make the most of the free time we did have. That included some of the touristy things that we had done before but still love doing. On this day, we woke up early and walked to Covent Garden from our hotel, stopping for some happy snaps and coffee along the way. I wore a simple combination of jeans, a white cashmere sweater and my classic trench coat but added a pop with these Stuart Weitzman Gilligan Flats in red.

Red Accessories

I get a lot of emails from readers asking questions about what to pack for upcoming trips- them wanting to be practical but still look cute along the way (you’ll have those photos & memories forever!) For a fall trip, I recommend something of this combination. You can wear each piece styled so many different ways, making the most of the limiting space of your luggage.

We spent a good part of our morning at the Burberry Headquarters which was conveniently located in walking distance from Westminster, Big Ben and the London Eye.

Covent Garden

We had to visit Charles Pétillon’s first public exhibit in Covent Garden, which is now gone, but had 100,000 balloons filling the market building. They looked like little clouds floating, a dreamy surprise for those who weren’t expecting it! It’s a part of his “Invasions” series of filling abandoned spaces with white balloons, each being a metaphor for something.

Classic Combination

I try and keep my style as classic as possible, especially when splurging on more expensive items, to ensure that they’ll be pieces I’m still wearing 15+ years from now. I also believe in the power of a good accessory and by accessory, I mean shoes! Stuart Weitzman never fails to bring new life to a classic staple, case in point, these Gilligan red flats. They’re comfortable enough to walk around in all day and even transition into an evening look with a little black dress.

Thank you to Stuart Weitzman for sponsoring this post.

When we were in London last October (almost an exact year ago!) we spent a little time in Belgravia for a shoot and wanted to make our way back over there during this trip. We made the darling (and very pink!) Peggy Porschen our destination for an afternoon sweet treat prior to meeting a friend for dinner.

Anytime anyone ever asks me, “if you could only pick one brand to live in, what would it be?”, my answer has always been the same. Miu Miu. The over-the-top girliness is always done in a modern, elegant way. I bought this coat while we were in Florence last June after much deliberation. It’s one of my most treasured pieces in my closet now.

Fall was in full swing while we were in London and luckily we brought enough layers to keep us warm. I lived in this Topshop turtleneck last fall and winter and already find myself doing the same this year. I have a few turtlenecks in neutral shades of black, white, cream and grey that prove to be great staples for layering and found this one, this one and this one that are available this season.

These Acne ankle booties are wonderfully flattering and another great staple for the coming cooler months. For those of you that live in warmer areas, they’re also really cute with denim shorts or dresses.

If you pick the right shade, pink can become like a neutral in your wardrobe. I lean towards lighter/blush/nude shades, which are easier to pair. I’ve found these five gorgeous pink coats online that could easily become your most reached for coat this season- this one, this one, this one, this one and this one (my personal fave).

Essential Photo Locations in Big Sur

The natural beauty of Big Sur makes it easy to find photo opportunities at every turn. With that said, it is also very easy to get distracted while driving Highway 1, so if you are the driver, please be sure to slow down and focus on the road instead of the view.  Allow your significant other to evaluate what turn-offs are worth stopping for.

Gal Meets Glam Essential Guide to Big Sur California: Bixby Bridge Must Stop Photo spot

Bixby Bridge – The historic Bixby Bridge was built in 1932, and connects Carmel to the rest of Big Sur. It’s also one of the most famous spots along Highway 1.

To arrive at Thomas and my favorite angle, turn left, just before the bridge if you are headed south.  If you are headed north, turn right, immediately after the bridge. This will take you to a road that goes up into the mountains. Follow the road just a little ways and look for parking. You should be perfectly angled so that you can shoot out towards the ocean and the bridge.

McWay Falls – This beautiful, ethereal waterfall never stops raining down onto the untouched beach below and can be enjoyed year round. It is also an ideal location to experience a magnificent sunset view.

Pfeiffer Beach – In order to capture amazing photos of this iconic purple beach and rock formation, schedule your arrival time around sunset. Be forewarned, however, that, although Thomas and I did see some “purple” sand, it was nothing like the photos we had seen on social media, indicating that either the lighting was a large factor in creating the purple color, or the pictures were heavily enhanced through photo editing.

Gal Meets Glam Essential Guide to Big Sur California: Post Ranch Inn Treehouses

Essential Places to Stay in Big Sur – Thomas and I just recently stayed in Big Sur for the very first time. We stayed at Post Ranch Inn and absolutely fell in love with the modern yet rustic architecture that blended in so well with the natural environment. Two other Big Sur hotel properties that come highly recommended are Ventana, which offers high-end cabin-like charm, and Treebones Resort, which is known for its “glamping”, combining lodge-styled Yurts with an upscale camping experience.

Post Ranch Inn– What can we say about Post Ranch Inn other than it just took our breath away!  Everything was so gorgeous in a very humble way. And, though it may be a more pricey choice, it is more than worth it.  The infinity-styled hot tubs with 180-degree views of the ocean will amaze you.  And the food, especially the breakfast buffet, is divine.

The views from the dining area are unsurpassed, with floor to ceiling windows that bring the ocean view right to you!

As if Big Sur isn’t amazing on it’s own, if you continue to travel on Highway 1, past Big Sur, you will end-up in Carmel if heading North or San Simeon, where the famous Hearst Castle is located, if heading South. So, when planning a Big Sur getaway, you may want to add-on a day or two in order to experience everything this magnificent stretch of the California coastline has to offer!

Alice + Olivia Dress, Sweet & Spark Vintage Brooches, Mulberry Bag, CH Carolina Herrera Scarf, Chanel Flats (similar here), Bobbi Brown Lipgloss in “Pink Beige”

There are some fabrics that just speak by themselves. Tweed being one of them- classic, chic and always in style. When I think of tweed, I think of the timelessness of Chanel and how iconic those pieces are. I bought this Alice + Olivia dress for those same reasons. The shape and fit, the color and texture are all a perfect combination.

I also wore this tweed combination back in August that’s still a favorite. The detailing of pearls along the neckline of the dress and the jacket are a beautiful contrast against the tweed.

Last week I had coffee with my girlfriend Jill who owns the vintage jewelry company, Sweet & Spark. A little accessorizing goes a long way.

I sometimes envy the simplicity of an all black and white wardrobe, how streamlined and clean it looks. The combination almost guarantees a chic outcome. But, I cannot live without my colors- pastels, brights and all the above. I still do appreciate those black and white pieces as they’re staples in many of my looks. Sometimes, on days like this, I’ll remove all color and welcome those two refined neutrals.

This black Max Mara coat was an investment piece I bought Spring of last year. I remember the sales associate at the Max Mara store (here in SF) telling me that it was a “forever coat”. And it absolutely is. I will still be wearing it 20, 30, even 40+ years from now. You can see a few of my past favorite looks I’ve styled with it on the blog here, here, here, here, here and here .

Late last week, Thomas and I headed out to Napa to shoot a few upcoming projects + get in a little r&r. This is my favorite time of year to be in the Wine Country. The autumnal colors are all around – in the trees, the vineyards, pumpkin patches and orchards, and the weather still feels warm enough to be considered summer. If you have an upcoming trip to Napa Valley, be sure to check out my Packing for Wine Country Guide!

The first stop on our drive to Calistoga was Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in Napa Valley for brunch, lunch or dinner! The property has a darling cafe where we’ll often grab an iced coffee while waiting for a table, a farmer’s market year-round on Saturdays and Sundays, and, of course, the restaurant is located in a renovated barn.

Since it’s one of Thomas’s and my favorite places (we try to visit as often as possible), we’ll be putting together our ultimate guide to wineries, hotels and restaurants soon!
