We arrived to Seattle in the early afternoon and had a good half day to explore. Thomas and I had both been before, but never as adults and never with our own agenda, so it felt like seeing a city for the first time. I was actually born outside of Seattle and lived there until I was 3, at which point we moved down to California. I was obviously too young to remember much, but I love listening to my mom’s stories from that part of my life. She went to school there, which is why she was in Washington, so it was fun to check out some of “her spots” while we were there.
A lot of the restaurant’s on our list didn’t open until 4pm, but we found one that was open for a late lunch over in Capitol Hill. Oddfellows ended up being a fantastic spot to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful summer weather. Their menu was filled with healthy dishes, with lots of vegetarian options, so it was right up our alley. We pulled up a seat, ordered some almond milk lattes and started to map out our next few days.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I brought a lot of great basics on this trip, hoping that they could be mixed for our various activities. A striped shirt is something I hardly travel without and my blue and white striped Saint James one is at the top of my favorites. I also packed along this Sézane denim skirt that I last wore on GMG in Ireland, as seen in this post.
After lunch, we headed over to Gas Works Park, located on the north shore of Lake Union. From the park, we had a fantastic view of the city skyline as a backdrop to kayakers, sailboats and park-goers. It was definitely an ideal spot for a picnic, be it lunch or dinner, so we’ll have to save that plan for next time. It definitely made us want to get out on the water, which inspired an activity we did later on in the week.
After freshening up at the hotel before dinner, we made our way over to Westward. This was my favorite restaurant in Seattle, mainly because of the location and outdoor dining ambiance. I kept saying how I wish we had something like it in SF. Big adirondack chairs sat facing the water, topped with color striped umbrellas and the nautical vibe of the restaurant was perfect for the setting. Not to mention, the food was fantastic. We started with oysters (well, Thomas did!) and both ordered the halibut for dinner, followed by an assortment of their desserts. It was amazing! If you’re planning a trip to Seattle, definitely add this one to your list.
We finished the evening by heading up to Kerry Park to watch the last bit of the sunset behind the city. We had been up to the park earlier in the day, but it’s definitely a different experience getting to see it all lit up against a pastel sky.
