Our last stop on our road trip was Montalcino in Tuscany. It was the perfect peaceful ending to a fantastic week-long adventure, hitting up distinctly different regions throughout Italy. We stayed at Castiglion del Bosco which sits on over 5,000 acres on an 800 year old estate in Montalcino and we couldn’t wait to explore what it all had to offer, taking full advantage of the fantastic wineries and activities available.

We drove from Portofino, stopping in Cinque Terre along the way before continuing on to wine country. We had a relaxing first evening, stuffing our faces with truffle pizza (dipped in honey!), pasta, cheese, wine and more bread. There can be no restrictions eating here, the food is just too good. If I were to have a last meal, I think this would be it.

The next morning we were ready for a day of exploring. We jumped in our convertible, top down, and hit the winding roads leading us to the hilltop town of Montalcino. It’s true what they say, it’s about the journey not the destination, and we were definitely taking in the journey stopping every few minutes to take in the views. For miles and miles all we could see were rolling, lush landscapes of vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields glowing in the late morning sunshine.

As we were driving, we saw this picturesque Tuscan home surrounded by wheat fields, making us feel like we were in The Gladiator. So naturally, we turned on the soundtrack and had a moment.

We arrived to the actual town of Montalcino and wandered through the stone paved streets and alleys, checking out some of the historical spots like the clock tower in the main square and the church of Sant’ Egidio before settling down for lunch at one of the many delicious looking spots. We saw pasta on the menu, a good view and were sold.

I wore this embroidered Vivetta dress that paired perfectly with my favorite Tabitha Simmons flats (last seen here) and had my trusty denim jacket for some added warmth.

We ended the day, our last full day in Italy, with a little wine tasting at the Castiglion del Bosco Winery, tasting a variety of Brunello wines while watching the sun set over Tuscany. It was truly the perfect end to a trip i’ll never forget!
